Technical overview
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Vehicle | Fiat Doblo 1.6 MultiJet |
| Year | 2015 |
| System | Engine ECU / DPF |
| Procedure type | Forced (static) DPF regeneration |
| Difficulty | Easy |
| Time required | ~15–40 minutes (full cycle) |
| Prerequisites | fuel level ≥ 25%, coolant temp ≥ 70 °C, no unrelated active DTCs, soot load below critical threshold, outdoor/well-ventilated location |
Step-by-step procedure
- Park outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. Transmission in Park/Neutral, parking brake on, wheels chocked. Keep flammables away from the tailpipe.
- Turn off all electrical consumers (A/C, lights, radio). Connect a battery maintainer if possible.
- Start the engine and idle until coolant reaches at least 70 °C.
- Plug the Thinkscan 689BT into the OBD2 port, switch ignition ON, and wait for VIN identification.
- Navigate: Fiat → Doblo → 2015 → 1.6 MultiJet → Special Functions → DPF → Forced Regeneration.
- Confirm the pre-check conditions and start the procedure. The car stays parked — regeneration is static.
- RPM rises to ~2,000, then ~3,000. Progress bar stays at 0% for several minutes, then starts advancing. Do not interrupt the cycle.
- At 100%, RPM drops to idle. Turn the ignition OFF and wait ~20 seconds for the ECU to save the updated soot counters.
- Switch ignition back ON, verify soot mass has dropped and no new DPF DTCs are stored. Clear any codes.
Additional Information & Compatibility Notes
On the Fiat Doblo 1.6 MJT, forced regeneration runs through the Bosch EDC17C49 ECU over CAN. If soot load is too high or ash load exceeds the ECU’s threshold, the ECU will refuse the forced regeneration and the DPF will need off-car cleaning or replacement.
Repeated forced regenerations without fixing the root cause failed glow plugs, stuck EGR, leaking injectors, faulty differential pressure sensor, or short-trip driving won’t solve the underlying problem.
Before using or purchasing any diagnostic tool for this procedure, always verify compatibility with your exact vehicle model, year and system configuration. Supported functions may vary depending on software version, hardware revision and regional limitations.
