This guide shows how to disable the seatbelt warning chime and dashboard reminder light on a Skoda Octavia Mk2 (2009) by adjusting the long coding of the instrument cluster (control module 17) with a Thinkdiag2 scanner.

This video shows how to step through the menus on a Thinkdiag2 (or any equivalent VAG-capable scanner with long coding), find byte 1 in module 17, and change the seatbelt warning bit from ON to OFF.

Step-by-step procedure

  1. Connect the Thinkdiag2 to the OBD2 port (lower left of the steering column).
  2. Turn ignition ON (engine off is fine).
  3. Start a new session in the app and choose Skoda, or let the scanner detect the VIN automatically.
  4. Let the scanner connect to the car and read the module list.
  5. Go to System selection.
  6. Select 17 — Instrument Cluster.
  7. Open Coding / Long Coding.
  8. Read the current long coding string and note it down before changing anything.
  9. Edit byte 01. In our example: 11 0E 01 (seatbelt warning ON) → change to 11 0C 01 (seatbelt warning OFF).
  10. Save / write the coding to the cluster.
  11. With the seatbelt unbuckled, the dash icon disappears right after saving.
  12. Clear any DTCs and close the session.

Seatbelt warning is now off.
