Technical overview

ItemDetails
VehicleHonda FR-V
Year2006
SystemImmobilizer (IMMO 3)
Procedure typeKey programming (Add key)
DifficultyEasy
Time required~5–10 minutes
PrerequisitesWorking key, compatible scanner with IMMO

Step-by-step procedure

Connect the diagnostic tool

  • Plug the scanner into the OBD2 port
  • Turn ignition ON using an already working key

Enter immobilizer menu

  • Open:
    IMMO / Key Programming / Anti-theft system
  • Select vehicle manually if auto-detect fails

Select “Add key” function

  • Choose: Add key / Program additional key
  • Follow on-screen instructions

Follow ignition cycle prompts

  • The scanner will ask you to:
    • Turn ignition OFF
    • Turn ignition ON
    • Repeat multiple times

⚠️ This is normal – timing matters

Insert new key when prompted (scanner not always says when to input new key. Use new key you want to add after first ignition OFF prompt)

  • Switch from original key to new key
  • Turn ignition ON

Wait for confirmation

  • Scanner will confirm successful programming
  • Immobilizer light should behave normally

Test the new key

  • Turn ignition ON
  • Start the engine
  • Verify no immobilizer warning

Additional Information & Compatibility Notes

This procedure is guided entirely by the scanner, no manual coding required If the process fails:

  • Retry with correct timing during ignition cycles
  • Ensure battery voltage is stable

Some Honda systems may:

  • Require all keys to be present
  • Delete old keys during programming (depends on tool/software)

Before using or purchasing any diagnostic tool for this procedure, always verify compatibility with your exact vehicle model, year and system configuration. Supported functions may vary depending on software version, hardware revision and regional limitations.
