Best OBD2 Scanners for Hyundai & Kia (Tested + Full System Tools)
Last Updated on March 23, 2026 by Juraj
Most OBD2 scanners for Hyundai and Kia only read engine codes.
That’s not enough.
To properly diagnose these cars, you need a tool that can access ABS, airbag (SRS), transmission, and other modules — not just the engine.
In this guide, I’ll show you the best scanners for Hyundai/Kia based on real testing.

These are the ones that actually worked.

Kia/Hyundai GDS
The Hyundai GDS / Kia KDS system is the official dealer diagnostic software for Hyundai and Kia. When paired with a GDS or KDS interface, it gives you full access to every control module, coding, and ECU programming. 🔍 What to Look for in a Hyundai/Kia Scanner
Hyundai and Kia vehicles require more than just basic OBD2 diagnostics.
When choosing a scanner, focus on these key features:
✔ Full-system diagnostics
Cheap scanners only read engine codes.
You need access to ABS, SRS, transmission, and body modules.
✔ Bi-directional control
Lets you actively test components (fuel pump, valves, actuators).
Essential for real diagnostics.
✔ Service functions
Look for support for:
- oil reset
- EPB reset
- steering angle calibration
- battery reset
✔ Coding & advanced functions
Some tools allow ECU coding or adaptations — useful for newer models.
✔ Lifetime updates (important)
Avoid scanners with subscriptions.
Free lifetime updates save a lot of money long-term.

I’d like to give you a warning on the Creader I have one that was bought for Toyota and have also bought the KIA software as I’ve just bought an EV6 and LAUNCH now tells me the Creader does not work on EV despite being advertised as such.
