Vgate Vlinker FS Review: A Fast, Coding-Safe ELM327 That Just Works
Published: August 2, 2024 · Last updated: June 4, 2026
The Vgate Vlinker FS is an advanced ELM327 Bluetooth adapter for iOS, Android and Windows, with no app of its own, you use it with Car Scanner, Carista and similar. I tested it on a Fiat Punto and a Toyota Corolla across several apps. Everything worked first try: fast connection, no drops, no battery drain, and at 9ms it’s fast enough to be safe for coding, where cheap adapters fail. It’s engine-only, and there’s a newer Vlinker MS worth checking. Read on.

VGate Vlinker FS Overview

Vgate Vlinker FS
The Vgate Vlinker FS is best compromise between budget and power to connect with multiple diagnostic/coding software.
- Works well with iphone/android and windows
- Great speed
- There is new version of this adapter (Vlinker MS) that costs same and is better

What it’s actually good at
Speed is the standout, and it’s what makes it safe for coding. On the speed test it pinged around 9ms, which is excellent, cheap adapters usually run 40 to 80ms and can drop packets mid-coding, which risks your modules. With Carista I pulled all available customizations on the Corolla, disabled the seatbelt chime and enabled window control from the key fob, and the coding was stable with no dropped packets. For app-based coding, that reliability is exactly what you’re paying for.
It just works, with every common app. Connection was instant on both cars, pairing easy, no disconnects or overheating. With Car Scanner it read and cleared codes, showed smooth live-data graphs, and reacted instantly on fuel trims and timing. It runs an ELM327 v2.2 chip with a proper sleep mode, so you can leave it plugged in without draining the battery, unlike $5 clones. It works with basically any ELM327 app: Car Scanner, Torque, Carista, OBD Auto Doctor, Dr Prius and hundreds more.

Where it falls short
It’s engine-only, like any ELM adapter. No full-system access, no bidirectional, no coding beyond what an app like Carista adds on supported cars. It’s a fast, reliable wireless adapter, not a scanner.
And the honest caveat: there’s a newer Vlinker MS at a similar price that’s even faster. The FS is excellent, but if the MS is close in cost, that’s the one to get, it bumps the speed further with improved firmware. The FS only makes clear sense if it’s cheaper or you already have it.
Who should buy this
Yes, buy it if:
- You want a fast, coding-safe ELM adapter for Carista or app-based logging, and it’s cheaper than the MS
- You value first-try reliability, sleep mode and broad app support across iOS, Android and Windows
- You want stable coding for things like seatbelt chimes or key-fob windows on supported cars
No, look elsewhere if:
- The newer Vlinker MS is close in price, it’s faster and the better buy
- You want a cheaper basic adapter and don’t need coding-grade speed, the Veepeak is the budget pick
- You need anything beyond engine codes, this is engine-only

Final word
The Vgate Vlinker FS is one of the best ELM327 adapters you can buy: fast (9ms), stable, safe for coding in supported cars, and it works flawlessly with Car Scanner and Carista across every platform. It did everything first try with no headaches, the only real caveat is that the newer Vlinker MS costs about the same and is even faster. If you want a simple, reliable, coding-safe adapter, this is a great pick. If you want the latest, get the MS; if you want the cheapest, the Veepeak.
