To properly diagnose Mercedes-Benz vehicles, you need a scanner that can access all control modules, run active tests, and perform coding or adaptations.

I tested dozens of diagnostic tools on different vehicles, and these are the best OBD2 scanners for Mercedes-Benz, Sprinter, and Maybach that provide the most useful diagnostic features for DIY mechanics and small workshops.

Xentry is the official Mercedes-Benz diagnostic software used by dealerships. Clone versions will be limited for certain advanced features but that’s expected for all clone dealership software.

Mercedes diagnostics explained

Checking used Mercedes-Benz S500.

Mercedes vehicles typically contain 40–70 control modules, depending on the model and equipment.

These modules control systems such as:

  • engine and transmission
  • ABS / ESP
  • air suspension
  • parking sensors
  • body electronics
  • climate control

Because of this complexity, basic OBD2 scanners often miss important faults that are stored outside the engine ECU.

A proper Mercedes diagnostic scanner should support:

  • full system scans
  • live data from multiple modules
  • bi-directional testing
  • coding and adaptations

  1. Hi there..
I have some trouble with my parkingsensors on a 2013 Mercedes 113 CDI Vito (w639) and i want to do some more searching in the system (just for fun).
I work as an manager for a Mecanics Youth club at the Salvation Army in Norway, Kristiansand and we need a good wide range bidirectional odb2..
Do you have any knowlegde if any of these Scanners like the Mucar 892BT or Thinkscan 695 bt is compatible with the Vito.??
or do you have a tip about, what to get for my Vito..

    1. I havent tried on Vito myself but I scanned few Mercedes cars and it worked fine. It is a big brand so usually works well with full-system scanners like these. If you want to have a piece of mind you can ask mucar support but I think it will work fine.
