Procedure typeNew transponder key programming
DifficultyEasy
Time required~ 15 min
PrerequisitesOpcom / VAUX-COM interface, valid security code, blank transponder key

Step-by-step procedure

1. Get the security code first.

This is its own job, covered in a separate guide. [How to find the security code to Opel Immobiliser 2 system]

2. Check the current transponder status before programming anything.

Opcom path: Special Functions > Immobiliser, then open Measuring Blocks.

The status field tells you what you’re working with before you commit to a programming attempt:

📋 What the transponder status actually means. “Correct TP-Key” means the key is already programmed and working. “Unknown key” means the chip itself is fine, it’s just not programmed yet, this is what a fresh blank key shows. “Invalid” or “does not contain valid transponder” means the chip is wrong or dead, no amount of programming will fix that.

3. Enter the security code to unlock the immobiliser functions.

All the Special Functions and Programming buttons stay greyed out until a correct code is entered. A wrong code triggers a lockout timer instead, anywhere from 10 seconds to 21 hours 20 minutes, so don’t guess here.

4. Program the new key.

Opcom path: Programming > Program Transponder-Keys > New.

Use “New” for a fresh blank chip that’s never been programmed to any car. Use “Old” only if the key was already programmed to this same immobiliser before and you’re re-adding it.

🔧 What I actually used. I put in a brand new ID40 PCF7935 blank. I’d heard the cheap superchip clones can be hit or miss on this immobiliser generation, so I skipped that route and went with the plain ID40 instead. Cycle the ignition after the key is written.

5. Repeat for additional keys if needed.

Only one key programs per cycle. If you need two or three keys total, cycle the ignition and repeat the Program Transponder-Keys step for each one.

6. Verify.

Back to Measuring Blocks. The new key should now read “Correct TP-Key” instead of “Unknown key.”

⚠️ If programming fails. Check the measuring blocks for the transponder status before trying again. A failed attempt usually means one of: wrong transponder type, no chip actually present in the key, the chip already programmed to a different car, or picking “New” on a key that was actually already programmed elsewhere.
