If you understand engine live data, you can diagnose engine problems even with cheap scanners like the ELM327 adapter or code reader we introduced earlier.
This is a short cut of a lesson in my premium OBD-II course provided for free to my email followers:
Bank 1 vs Bank 2:
These terms refer to the different sides of a V-type engine. Bank 1 contains cylinder 1, and Bank 2 is the opposite side.
Short Term Fuel Trim (STFT):
Shows immediate adjustments made by the engine control unit (ECU) to keep the air-fuel mixture optimal.
Long Term Fuel Trim (LTFT):
Indicates adjustments over a longer period to maintain the correct air-fuel ratio.
Oxygen Sensor 1 (Upstream):
Measures the oxygen level in the exhaust before it reaches the catalytic converter, helping to adjust the fuel mixture.
Oxygen Sensor 2 (Downstream):
Monitors the efficiency of the catalytic converter by measuring oxygen levels after the converter.
RPM:
Revolutions Per Minute of the engine, indicating how fast the engine is running.
ECT:
Engine Coolant Temperature, showing how hot the engine coolant is.
MAF:
Mass Air Flow sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine.
MAP:
Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor measures the pressure within the intake manifold.
IAT:
Intake Air Temperature sensor measures the temperature of the air entering the engine.
Good job, lesson completed!
You can rest for a few days until the next lesson arrives in your mailbox! Or you can unlock the whole course here.
I test OBD-II scanners and make DIY Engine diagnostics guides to help you solve your car problems without having to depend on the mechanic. A lot of them will try to scam you or are just no help at all. About Juraj Lukacko
